Great Wall Auto, a specialized SUV/CUV manufacturer, presented the compact CUV concept. With the flurry of CUVs on display at the show, Great Wall Auto, with three concept cars on display - Cool Bear, Florid, and GWPeri - is looking like they have gained an upper-hand against the competition in the CUV market. From the styling perspective, the overall proportion of the vehicle is quite different
As part of developing a new family of global cars over the next two years, Nissan have showcased the Geniss, the first Nissan car ever to have its world release in China. The Geniss concept is a 'luxurious, yet practical' vehicle, and was developed at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan, and will be built on a Renault-Nissan Alliance common platform. Seating up to seven passengers, Geniss
Even though stationed on the fringe of the second floor at the main 1A hall, Liebao's UU CT3 compact pick-up was attracting plenty of interest throughout the show. Liebao, displaying three concepts at the show - UU CT3, CS6-Y and CS7 - all CUVs. Positioned in a compact segment, while UU CT3 may never make it into the production stage, it certainly showed plenty of interesting automotive styling cues. The UU CT3 has excellent proportions between the hood, greenhouse and the payload. Details include a two-tone treatment of the body to door, with a band of orange surrounding the frame of the door. Off-road driving is definitely out-of-bounds for this pick-up, and it is interesting to note that if the styling indications are correct, the main target for this vehicle would surprisingly be women. Heavily rounded corners and organic overall surfacing breaks away from the usually boxy North American pickups, and cheeky headlamp and fog-lamp details add fun to the vehicle. The UU CT3 might be one of many CUV's at the show, but definitely with an ingenuity not seen on others.
Brilliance Auto, with the rather dubious distinction of having similar styling and model names to BMW, have showcased one of the biggest surprises and the best styled vehicle by the domestic manufacturers at the show, the Zhonghua M3, a two-seater luxury coupe. This medium-size coupe was definitely the eye-catcher at Hall 1A, occupied predominantly by Chinese domestic automakers. Ever attempting
Less serious and more fun than the A3, Lei (meaning 'She' in Italian), is a compact, entry level sports coupe for young Chinese drivers. Unlike the other two concepts from Chery, the designers of Lei has taken more chances and pushed the boundaries a bit further. The overall profile is sleek and fast at the front of the vehicle, but with the backlight and rear bootline dropping sharply, the visua
If there is ever an ambition by an automotive manufacturer to export cars, designing a European C-segment hatch - while a daunting challenge - should be a good place to start. In a sense, the A3 is a rather unconventional type of concept, where Chery's intention of developing this concept was about designing 'a real production car' to showcase to the world, rather than a flash' concept vehicle.
The only foreign manufacturer to display a concept car at Auto China 2006 was Volkswagen, unveiling the Neeza crossover concept. As one of the first major overseas manufacturers to enter the Chinese market more than 20 years ago, it's evident that Volkswagen is again intent on leading the motoring trend in China by displaying a Coupe/Wagon CUV, with strong Chinese automotive styling flavor. Built
Xingqing, which means clear sky', was inspired by the romantic atmosphere which fills people when looking up to the sky and seeing the stars on a clear night. Measuring at 3500mm x 16500mm x 1550mm on a 2365mm wheelbase, this entry level compact minivan CUV is targeted at young urban professionals, whom the company would describe as "using this car to commute during weekdays, as well as enjoying
While Auto China 2006 showcased an abundance of concept cars, in particular CUVs, one notable type of vehicle which wasn't being displayed much was the ever popular, small sedans for the Chinese market. The newly released Saibao V, a C-segment sedan was about the only noticeable vehicle in this segment - along with Suzuki SX4 sedan - to be displayed at the show, and this might be an indication of
The second of the three main show attractions from Chery, the Lui is a 5door SUV-based CUV. Like the R3, Lui - which translates into 'He' in a Italian - was also styled at Torino Design, and following the characteristics of its name, Lui displays a strong, sturdy and masculine form. With a slim DLO, a large body proportion and strong wheelarch volumes, Lui targets the medium size SUV's such as the
