Students on the 2015 Master's course in Transportation and Car Design at Scuola Politecnica di Design (SPD) in Milan, have made the final presentation of their projects. Last year's intake developed their designs in collaboration with Audi, Ducati and Lamborghini, and the presentation was attended by VW Group representatives including Volkswagen's Alessandro Dambrosio and Filippo Perini of Lamborghini, continuing the Volkswagen Group's support of the programme, which includes scholarship opportunities.
Students were briefed to create projects for the three marques. For Lamborghini, they were challenged to interpret the spirit of the brand; for Ducati, the brief was to design a new-generation Monster motorbike; and for Audi, to design a new flagship model, a luxury five-meter sedan with an electric powertrain. The Audi concepts created by the students “infuse the values and the Audi design DNA with architectural concepts that range between heritage and futurism,” says the college.

Inspired by hydroforming and airforming of steel, this project explores how these manufacturing techniques might affect the surface treatments of the exterior and interior. Its monovolume, windowless exterior suggests a future in which luxury transportation will be more about keeping vehicle occupants entertained with interior displays than with a view outside, or indeed, driving.
