McLaren Automotive has confirmed to Car Design News that their chief designer, Rob Melville, has been promoted to the role of design director.
This move comes as a result of the absence of Frank Stephenson, who McLaren tells us “is off work currently for personal reasons.”
Melville has previously been responsible for the entry-level ‘Sports Series’ model family encompassing the 540C, 570S and 570GT. In a feature he did with CDN last year, he said of this project “being involved in the 570 programme right from the sketch through to standing up and launching the car in New York was a special moment, being allowed to have that opportunity to be involved all the way through.”
He was also involved in the P1 hypercar and the brand new 720S supercar.
