The new Head of Design at Škoda will be Oliver Stefani. The long-time VW man, most recently Head of Exterior Design at Volkswagen, will start in his new rôle on September 1.
He replaces Jozef Kaban, whose move to BMW was announced back in February. Kaban’s era at Škoda was marked by a fresh and adventurous design language, with vehicles like the Kodiaq widely praised. Stefani is being lined up to continue that direction, according to the company's management.
“In recent years, ŠKODA’s design has developed extremely well,” said Škoda CEO Bernhard Maier. “Most recently, we have also transferred the new and expressive design language to our SUV models. And now, Oliver Stefani will instigate the next stage of development.
“He will design our cars to have even greater emotional resonance and will lead them into the era of digitalisation and the electrification of vehicle manufacturing,” continued Maier. “Oliver Stefani has great creative potential. I am looking forward to working with him.”
The 53-year-old Stefani, who started at Volkswagen in 2002, studied design in Braunschweig and Pasadena and has played a major rôle in the design of numerous Volkswagen brand production vehicles including the up!, Polo, Jetta, Tiguan and the current Golf, as well as the ID concept cars.
