On Tuesday October 2 the global motor show circus swings into action again with the Mondial de l’Auto in Paris. Though there’s been a fair amount of muttering recently about motor shows being less of a vital force than they once were – and there are certainly a few notable absentees from this year’s exhibitor list – there will still be a good number of launches, concept reveals, and opportunities to quiz interesting people.
We’ll be there, of course, reporting live from the halls both via our Twitter feed and in more depth on the CDN Live section of our site. Keep a close eye on those as we bring you our unique coverage of what’s happening.
However, one element that seems to have been particularly prevalent this year is the pre-show teaser or even full early press reveal; manufacturers seem to be either trying to whip up interest early, or attempting to grab a bit of the limelight to themselves before all their competitors chime in. So far we’ve seen sketches, renderings, moody photographs or even full images of (deep breath): two new models from Vinfast, the DS 3 Crossback, the production Kia Proceed, the Audi e-tron (and again, at a pop-up in San Francisco), the Mercedes EQC, the Ferrari Monza SP speedsters – probably via a dealer stand, as FCA are among those absentees – the Skoda Vision RS, and the utterly splendid, retro-referencing Peugeot e-Legend.
There will, of course, still be plenty of surprises, and a few staunch holdouts, like BMW with its 3 Series, are refusing to reveal their major cars until the very moment of the launch. Keep checking in and we’ll give you all the latest news (in between saucisson et fromage baguettes, of course).
