The Pride EV was commissioned to celebrate the brand’s 80th anniversary

We wrote last week that Kia would be revealing a restomod over the weekend, and here it is.

The Pride EV is a restomod in the truest sense of the word, taking a 1996 Pride hatchback supplied by Kia UK’s heritage fleet and modified tastefully by Oxford-based Electrogenic. It is quite a different project to the company’s usual undertakings, which typically include Land Rovers, 911s and E-Types.

Given the team was working with a donor car, the exterior forms are largely untouched aside from some subtle re-badging and tweaks to the UX.

The fuel gauge, for example, is now a battery level indicator. The pop-open lid now houses a charging port as opposed to the fuel cap. Even the manual gearstick remains in place, which we are told is in fact functional. “[The motor] drives the front wheels via its original five-speed transmission, retained and re-worked by Electrogenic.”

A fun project to celebrate the brand’s 80th anniversary.
