The all-new full-size SUV has been given its global reveal
The previous generation had already been described as a “hub of relaxation and comfort”, but the all new Palisade seems to take things to a new level. The three-row SUV has been totally redesigned and now appears much grander and luxurious than before. It does however retain a feeling of utility – crucial given the middle letter of that acronym.
Visually, the Palisade sits apart from the Santa Fe with slightly cleaner surfacing – less geometric – and showcases a distinctive front light signature created by layered blocks, repeated at the rear.
It is a shift away from the parametric pixel light signature found across the brand, including the recently revealed Ioniq 9. While the surfacing of the Palisade is cleaner, the overall silhouette is a little boxier than the prior generation, particularly the front end which now sits almost bolt upright.
This is countered somewhat by the windshield which hits a 45-degree angle, and there is a hint of a fast roofline, too, obscured slightly by the silver roof rails which tie in with the matching C pillar. While black contrast cladding is the industry standard, the Palisade continues the silver theme on the lower masks (front and rear, almost like skid plates) and side sills.
Inside, and there is now apparently seating for up to nine passengers, with the centre console doubling as an extra seat in the front row. It is not immediately clear how this works from the press renders that have been made available.
We assume the armrest folds upwards, turning the centre console into a backrest. The instrument panel is vast and arguably steals the show. The upper section sits high in the driver’s line of sight and is almost pillow-like – it could feasibly described as ‘plump’ – while the lower section sits below a concaved area in the centre.
Large, multi-spoke wheels complement the overall package. Full dimensions have not yet been released but we anticipate it will occupy a space between the Santa Fe and electric Ioniq 9.
