Mercedes-Benz has deepened its relationship with fashion brand Moncler through a new project that has given the iconic G-Class a puffer jacket, among other things.
The launch event – and collaboration as a whole – was pushed under the moniker of ‘Past Forward’ through which “the future is driven by the past.” It does feel that way, with the ’90s donor car given numerous tweaks and touches inside and out.
It builds on an earlier collaboration with Moncler for Project Mondo G which combined rough, heavily-patinaed bodywork with a plush space-age puffer roof and wheels. It is a similar feel with the Mercedes-Benz x Moncler by NIGO (the designer of Human Made and Kenzo fame) which seems far more feasible as an actual vehicle, beyond an art piece.
The muted, military-esque colour theme is complemented well by gold accents on the roof bars and also a fuel can at the rear. Similar treatment has also been applied to a modern version of the G-Class, based on the new G 450d, which will be limited to just 20 units and made available April 2025.
