Amazon has released a video outlining the thinking behind its new electric Prime delivery van, which is being created by electric trucks start-up Rivian. While brief, the video shows modelling work going on in Rivian’s design studio and explains that the team “worked backwards from the needs of the driver” to define the design from a blank slate and make the “most functional, highest performing and the safest” van they can – Alexa integration and all.
Amazon has said the vans will begin delivering packages to its customers in 2021. The plan is to have 10,000 of them on the road in 2022 and the rest of the planned 100,000 vehicles on the road by 2030, at which point the company claims it will have saved millions of metric tons of carbon per year.
