The German carmaker has revealed a limited series of G-Class vehicles, the Mercedes Benz G-Class Stronger Than The 1980s

Mercedes-Benz has revealed a special edition of the G-Class, celebrating the original 1980s W 460 model with a modernised, design-led tribute.

Limited to 460 units globally, the G-Class Stronger Than The 1980s merges retro visuals with contemporary technology to bring the vehicle up to today’s standards.

Visually, the new edition channels early G-Class style through colour, trim and detail.

Two vintage-inspired paint finishes – agave green and a warm, sandy beige – are a nod to the earthy tones of the early off-roader. The night black magno finish to the grille, bumpers, flared arches and mirrors provide a satisfying contrast.

Orange indicators, a heritage-style bonnet badge and a period-correct rear badge all reinforce the retro narrative. Modern touches are carefully placed, like a logo projector in the exterior mirror, which illuminates ‘G – Stronger Than Time’ lettering on the ground when you enter the vehicle.

Classic five-spoke alloy wheels further the vintage impression, while optional elements from the Professional line, including headlamp grilles, a roof rack and off-road tyres, give the vehicle an expedition-ready stance.

Inside, the limited edition vehicle features dove grey fabric seat inserts with black leather bolsters, reminiscent of a popular colour combination from the W 460 era. There’s a nice balance between digital and tactile controls, both integrated into the dash seamlessly.

Smaller elements in the car are there to remind you of just how special this vehicle is. For example, there’s a 1980s-style ’Shöckl Proved’ badge near the B-pillar which references the mountain train in Graz where every G-Class is tested.

Also, each car includes a centre console plaque with ‘1 of 460’ lettering as well as ‘Stronger Than The 1980s’ lettering on the trim moulding of the passenger grab handle. Let’s just say you won’t forget what you’re driving anytime soon.

This isn’t the first time the iconic G-Wagon has been reimagined, most recently by British firm Arcade Cars in 2024.

So, if you happen to have £152,815 (starting price) lying around, then you know what to do…
