Audi has revealed a new off-road concept that puts the Q6 e-tron on stilts, described as “an emotive reinterpretation of the quattro”

Ahead of the increasingly popular F.A.T. Ice Race in Austria next month, Audi has revealed a new off-road prototype based on the Q6 e-tron. Its road presence is significant, with an extra 160mm in ride height and a track that is 250mm wider. Crikey.

It also feels quite reminiscent of the (admittedly more futuristic) Activesphere concept delivered in 2023 under previous Audi design boss, Marc Lichte. Unlike that concept, this previews the next generation of the electric Q6 due for production.

Capable of handling a nuclear – or regular – winter

Whether this was put together specifically for the ice race, we are not sure, but Audi says the concept began as a result of the question: “how do we create a highly emotive electric vehicle?”

Emotive or not, the prototype certainly promises to be capable, equipped with studded snow tyres and a combined all-wheel torque of 13,400Nm thanks to specially-designed portal axles. This cuts the top speed to 108mph (tyre roar, anyone?) but also enables it to climb a 45-degree gradient.

The standard Q6 e-tron will be the first production model built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), but it will look very different to this.

Obvious tweaks include a chunky roof rack with integrated light bar, black and grey carbon-fibre-style exterior colourway, and enormous wide-body arch extensions. We cannot help but agree with the assertion that this adds some emotion to the EV market, but do remember that this is only a concept.
