Audi’s new design boss looks ahead to CDN’s upcoming livestream on German car design
The CDN team will be in Munich next week for a very special gathering to discuss the future of German car design.
Alongside Mercedes-Benz’s Stefan Lamm will be new Audi design boss Massimo Frascella, who ahead of the event next week gave us a flavour of his time in Germany so far and the significance of design in Munich at large. He also highlights some cars that, in his eyes, encapsulate what Audi is all about.
Car Design News: Are you excited to be in Munich to discuss all things German car design?
Massimo Frascella: Yes, very excited! I recently moved to Munich and I immediately started to appreciate what the city has to offer, its cultural importance and how central it is to not only the German but the whole European design landscape.
CDN: Which Audi models resonate with you personally from a design perspective – either from the brand’s past or more recently.
MF: Audi has many models that throughout its history have redefined car design. The first models that come to my mind are, of course, the first generation TT, the A2, the fifth-generation A6 and the second-generation A8, but also concept cars like Rosemeyer, Steppenwolf and the RSQ… All of these vehicles stand for the courage, confidence and determination of the Audi people, where engineering knowledge and progressive design become a true representation of “Vorsprung durch Technik.”
I enjoy the opportunity to connect and exchange
CDN: What is your perspective of the car design community in Germany so far?
MF: There is clearly a strong car design community here in Germany. Beyond the more established German companies, we see that many international automobile manufacturers have their design and development centers here. The network is very close and I do enjoy the opportunity to connect and exchange in events like the one organised by CDN.
