Earlier this month, Mahindra opened a new “state of the art creative facility” in Mumbai to expand its global design footprint
Breaking ground on a new studio is always exciting. The latest comes from Mahindra in its home market of India, based in the metropolis that is Mumbai.
The company says this new outpost will not only serve as a space for creativity to bloom, but also a means to attract new talent. Like its sister studio in the UK, it has been equipped for both the analogue and digital age, with clay modelling and digital tools both on deck.
It will be led by Ajay Saran Sharma, senior VP of design who joined in 2021 after nearly two decades with Tata following earlier stints with Maruti Suzuki and Daewoo. Overseeing things on a global level is chief creative officer Pratap Bose, who says the influence of the studio “will be felt for many years to come.”
Mahindra originally opened its India design studio in 2015 to support growing automotive and agriculture business, but further expansion was deemed necessary and this new spot is the result of fresh investment into the design footprint.
The space is open, bright and nicely finished with a secluded outdoor viewing area through which models can be viewed in direct sunlight (or shade). Tall ceilings, long tables and varied seating will encourage collaboration and productivity, we are sure.
If you look closely, you’ll spy a copy of Car Design Review 8 within the library bookshelf.
