It has been a little quieter than other weeks, but through sheer coincidence or in line with Milan design week, there is news from several storied Italian brands. Read on for a round-up of what’s been happening away from the main headlines.
Frank Stephenson shoots for the stars
The designer has tried his hand at an aerospace interior, designing the cabin for HALO Spaceflight’s “Aurora” project. Inspired by Space Age architecture, it features curved lines, reflective surfaces, and an innovative seating arrangement.

Alfa Milano (unevenly) divides opinion
The storied Italian brand has revealed its latest model, the Milano, ahead of Milan Design Week no less. Anecdotally, the compact SUV has not been met with the best of receptions, but perhaps a close-up look in the metal will give us a better idea of the car’s real-world proportions and impact.

Bertone GB110
The ‘provocative’ hypercar revealed at the end of 2022 will be at Top Marques Monaco between the 5-9 June, the first time it will have been on display to the public.
Pininfarina Battista
Another bespoke Battista hypercar has been revealed for a customer that is clearly on board with what Pininfarina is doing, adding to their collection with the Reversario. In effect, it takes the Anniversario (itself a one-off commission, too) and flips the heritage-inspired colour theme, along with bespoke inscriptions found throughout the car.

Zonda x IED concept
Students from the Transportation Design MA course at IED Torino have worked on a tribute to the Pagani Zonda to mark its 25th anniversary. The Alisea retains much of the original Zonda design, with a cab-forward layout and iconic bubble-like glass house.

Mazda CX-80
The brand’s all-new, three-row SUV will be based on the same platform as the CX-60 but promises more room and comfort. In fact, Mazda says this will be its most spacious model on sale in Europe, with ”progressive design anchored in Japanese aesthetics.” Mark 18 of April in your calendars for the official reveal.

Salone del Mobile
Milan design week has kicked off, and this year promises to be more automotive-centric than ever with the likes of Audi, Bentley, BMW, Bugatti, Lexus, Porsche and many more holding exhibits across the city. The team at Car Design News is also on site with Maserati this week to host our second Design Night in a row, returning with a new panel of speakers to fuel the discussion.
