Xpeng revealed two new electric vehicles to the UK market, Xpeng G6 and Xpeng X9, at a launch event in Old Billingsgate, London
Under the glow of London’s skyline framed by the River Thames and Tower Bridge, Xpeng made its grand UK entrance at the illustrious venue of Old Billingsgate – a venue steeped in history, now hosting a glimpse of the future.
A fiery orange Xpeng G6 model was presented on the red-carpet approach to the entrance, the Chinese OEM’s launch to the UK market had a clear intent to impress.
Xpeng has officially entered the UK market with the pre-sale of the electric mid-size G6 SUV and an introduction to the people carrier X9 – which is not yet on the market.
Xpeng makes it clear that they are serious about turning heads, not just with their cutting-edge technology loaded into each car, but also with their softly sculpted design language. Of course, the brand’s flying car prototype was on display, with the ‘Land Aircraft Carrier’ becoming available at the end of 2025.
Xpeng vice chairman and president Dr Brian Gu said: “We are excited to bring a new era of smarter, more sustainable mobility to the UK market and globally. With XPENG’s cutting-edge proprietary technology – ranging from futuristic design and impressive range to ultra-fast charging – we are confident that our vehicles will resonate with UK consumers, offering exceptional quality, innovation, and an outstanding driving experience.”
Xpeng G6
The electric SUV blends smooth curves with a cutting-edge technology. The front of the car is understated, with a sleek light panel stretching across the width of the front face, which hints to the high-tech underpinnings.
As for the cabin, spacious is the first word that comes to mind. Sitting in the vehicle, it’s evident that the main event is the large floating touchscreen that acts as the hub for the car’s smart features. Xpeng also sees the bright future of AI inside the car, with a voice-activated Avatar system.
The front seat offers double 50W wireless charging with a ventilation function and reclines back almost 180 degrees to meet the rear seats, creating a near-flat space for relaxation. The main driver’s seat offers an additional eight-way electric adjustment and four-way lumber support.
Like the Xpeng P5 obvious thought that has gone into the long-distance driver, who might want a break from the road or somewhere comfortable to reside when waiting for the vehicle to charge.
Xpeng X9
It was touch and go whether the Xpeng X9 would arrive at the UK launch event in time, but alas, the seven-seater MPV was ready and waiting for admiration.
With comparisons ranging from a Mercedes taxi to an executive limousine, the starship-inspired X9 offers a tech-packed cabin for the family.
The aerodynamic silhouette features a strong diagonal crease line in the flanks while black A, B and C-pillars break up the mass. Similar to the G6, the X9 has a striking lightbar that stretches across the front of the vehicle and differentiates it from traditional MPVs.
Inside, the cabin is roomy with an airy feel thanks to the panoramic glass roof. The cabin is customisable for multiple uses and well equipped with a hot and cold refrigerator, 21.4-inch family infotainment system display, wrap-around central air conditioning, ambient lighting and a 23-speaker audio system. Real wooden accents break up the soft furnishings and create a welcome contrast to the interior technology.
